Construction of National Road 57B Launched

Phnom Penh, March 21, 2011 AKP – Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen presided over today in Battambang province the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of national road 57B under the concession loan of the People’s Republic of China.

This national road will contribute to the national road 57 whose construction is almost completed and the national road 59 whose construction has just begun recently, in improving the living condition of the local people, said Samdech Techo Hun Sen on the occasion.

The Cambodian premier also expressed deep thanks to the Chinese people and government, considering them as a long-lasting and close friend, a potential development partner and donor without condition who has responded in time to the need and proposition for the development in all domains in Cambodia.

These achievements not only show the ties of friendship and the trade and economic cooperation between Cambodia and China, but also constitute a key potential contribution to support the socio-economic development process in Cambodia with an aim to alleviate poverty among the people.

For his part, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Pan Guangxue said the national road 57B is very important in liking the northwestern and the central parts of Cambodia.

He is delighted with Cambodia’s economic development and expressed Chinese leaders’ irreversible support to the socio-economic development in Cambodia, especially to the construction of social infrastructure.

He further affirmed that the Chinese government will continue to help develop Cambodia’s agricultural field by providing financial assistance to the construction of irrigation system in Prey Veng, Kampot, Pursat provinces and those in the northwestern part.

According to Minister of Public Works and Transport H.E. Tram Iv Tek, the construction of the 176.35-kilometer national road 57B will cost approximately US$90 million and last about 48 months. –AKP

Cambodian Premier Asks for Actions Against Any Officials Committing Corruption Act

Phnom Penh, March 21, 2011 AKP – Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has given instructions to anti-corruption unit, asking it to take actions against any officials who managed state budget without accountability to the disabled and retirees.

Speaking at the cabinet meeting held here at the Peace Palace on Mar. 18, Samdech Techo Hun Sen asked the concerned ministries and the local authorities to pay the allowances punctually for them with transparency and accountability.

The cabinet meeting approved a draft of the national strategy on the social care for the poor and vulnerable people.

The draft of the national strategy, prepared jointly by the Council of Agricultural and Rural Development, the concerned government institutions and the development partners, aims to enable them to help themselves prevent the poverty, food insecurity and exploitation.

Its aim is to reduce all the risks affected to the poor in dealing with the problem in the negative way.

The national strategy also gives the benefit to them in building up the human capital and accelerating the opportunities such as health care, nutritious food and education, thus contributing to the social and economic development in Cambodia.

The Cambodian royal government considered the poverty as not only the loss of economic source value, but also the social instability. –AKP

Construction of Cambodia-Korea Friendship Detour Begins

Phnom Penh, March 21, 2011 AKP – The construction of Cambodia-Korea Friendship Detour Phase II in Siem Reap province under the cooperation framework between APSARA Authority and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has begun recently.

The ground-breaking ceremony was held under the presidency of Siem Reap Provincial Governor H.E. Sou Phirin and Korean Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Chang Ho-jin.

On the occasion, H.E. Sou Phirin expressed thanks to the government of the Republic of Korea and particularly KOICA for their contribution to the development and preservation the Angkor region. –AKP
